Singer-songwriter Camila Cabello recently opened up about her first sexual experience during an appearance on The Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast.
The former Fifth Harmony member revealed that she lost her virginity at the age of 20 to relationship coach and writer Matthew Hussey, whom she dated from 2018 to 2019.
She described the moment she lost her virginity to Hussey as “beautiful” and elaborated on the experience during the podcast.
She said, “I had my first relationship at that time.”
“I had actually listened to [Matthew’s] podcast before … because he had, like, a dating podcast. And he is married now, so congratulations. It was too late for my first relationship. I was 20.”
“That was my first time having sex. First lovemaking was at 20, 21,” she added.
“It was literally lovemaking. It was beautiful.”
Though their relationship lasted just over a year between 2018 and 2019, Cabello expressed how much she had learned from Hussey.
She praised him for being “a really great person” and reflected on how the relationship broadened her perspective, especially since Hussey was not part of the entertainment industry.
She added, “He was a really great person. It was like the perfect first relationship. It really expanded my world because he wasn’t in my industry too.”
Since their breakup, Hussey has gone on to marry, which Cabello graciously acknowledged during the podcast.
After her relationship with Matthew, Cabello started dating Shawn Mendes. The couple had an on-and-off relationship for several years.
In 2023, Shawn and Camila broke up again, and since then, she has stayed single. However, she shared that she’s ready to start dating again.
Camila said in the same podcast, “I really want this year to be like 2018 for me. I hope I meet someone I really like, ‘cause it’s been a while, probably about a year.”
The singer’s candid discussion about her first sexual experiences has sparked mixed reactions on social media.
Some users applauded her for sharing a positive experience, while others questioned the need for such personal details.
One user posted, “Lmaooo girll we didn’t ask this is private thing…What do you want us to do??”
Another one chimed in, “feel like she needs to learn that not everything has to be shared with the public.”
However, some came to Cabello’s defence.
A fan remarked, “I feel like you need to grow up. She’s a real human and artist and most people already knew this anyways she was asked a question on a podcast she answered.”
“That’s really sweet. Everyone’s experience is different and it’s nice to hear she had a positive one,” another one added.
